Overall, Memo Book is simple. Unfortunately, the interface is not all that intuitive and it takes a few minutes for me to get accustomed to the layout. In fact, figuring out how to delete an existing memo also took me more than five minutes to deduce—that’s much too long for such a basic tool.

If you are simply looking for a replacement for Apple’s own Notes app, Memo Book is a decent option. Its quick-note entry and label-based organization are suitable for that type of usage. Anything more than that, and you may want to consider a more robust app.

What is Memo Book?

Memo Book is an iPhone application that allows you to capture, view, modify, delete, and organize information via electronic memos. You organize your memos by applying one or more labels to categorize them. Once labeled, you can navigate to the desired memo through any of the associated labels.

Labels

Memo Book supports two distinct types of labels: user-defined labels and Smart Labels. User-defined labels are, obviously, labels you create and you decide which memos are associated with these labels. Smart Labels are defined by Memo Book, and it determines which memos are associated with these labels. There are two such labels: All and Unlabeled. The All Smart Label has every memo associated with it. It’s a convenient way to view a list of all your memos on one page. The second Smart Label, Unlabeled, captures all memos not associated with any user-defined label.

The Labels Page

The first page you see when you start Memo Book is the Labels page. Besides viewing previously created labels, you can add new labels, delete labels, change the title of a label, and change the order in which your labels are displayed. When you select one of the labels on this page, Memo Book displays a new page listing all associated memos.
