This is a bit dated because lots of the new iPhone note taking apps can sync.

You got your iPhone. You got your computer. Your emails sync. Your contacts sync. Your calendars sync. Your music, your podcasts, your photos, all your stuff: it just syncs. This is good.

Your notes? They don't sync.

Evernote – review | Touchtip

Filed under: reviews — Tags: — sync @ 10:26 am

Evernote’s most powerful feature is text extraction from images, and it must be seen to be believed. Evernote will quickly, and very accurately, show you images that contain text when you search your notes. This makes it easy to capture notes from whiteboard sessions, or documents, or anything, just by using your iPhone’s camera to snap a picture and send it to your Evernote account. Then you can search on any key words or key phrases to find the image containing that text. Imagine using this to create a database of business cards, purchase receipts, recipes from magazines or cards, concert tickets, or just about anything.

iPhone Atlas: Apple iPhone tips, how-tos, troubleshooting, and news – CNET Reviews

Filed under: reviews — sync @ 4:18 am

A recently published, Gartner report examines the 3G networks of all four major U.S. wireless carriers. What they found was that most of these networks provide slower speeds than customers were led to expect. AT&T customers had the most complaints about its network, and the iPhone 3G was singled out.

The report was quick to point out that both companies and consumers should be a bit more realistic about their expectations of network performance and that consumers should look closely at the fine print which “doesn't guarantee such speeds.” Claims of speeds as high as 1.8Mbit/sec. were “generally between 300Kbit/sec and 700Kbit/sec lower than expected for both uplink and downlink speeds”

With countless tech blogs that chronicle the technology, competition, and funding behind different applications, we ask one simple question, “Would you actually use this?”

We give mobile applications fifteen minutes to show us what they’ve got. In today’s microblog, mini-feed, lifestreaming, and YouTube-attention span world, we feel like products have to be useful and functional before they are beautiful or “just cool.”

Leaving the tech talk and snootiness far behind, we will spotlight different mobile applications to tell you what it is, what it costs, and who it’s good for.

iPhone Apps – Icon Memos | Apptism

Filed under: reviews — Tags: — sync @ 11:32 pm

Icon Memos is a free application for writing short memos. The memos are arranged as icons in a layout similar to the iPhone home screen, with the added ability to create folders and subfolders for a high degree of organization. We call this the Iconic Hierarchical Filesystem. You can drag icons around to rearrange them or put them on separate pages, just like in the original home screen, or drop them in a folder (or drop them back out in the parent folder).

Icon Memos doesn't have many features, but hey – it's FREE! If you want more features, check out our inexpensive note-writing application named Iconic Notes. It combines the Iconic Hierarchical Filesystem with an incredible range of useful features including the ability to import notes over the network, email notes, write in landscape mode, change text fonts, font sizes, text and background colors, restrict access to private folders, and add new icons from your photo library. We'll also be adding more new and exciting features.

The application provides full, two-way sync for your notes and tasks, allowing you to make changes even when off-line. Create a note or task on your iPhone, synchronize, and watch as it pops up in Outlook a few seconds later!
